A good majority of the brick floors have a topical sealer on them. This is evidenced by the shiny appearance. A favorite by many brick floor owners was to stain their brick. Usually brown. In most situations, stripping the sealer off is going to be a pre-requisite to restoring the brick. When you have a brick that has been stained or tinted, when stripping the sealer, you will also be stripping the stain or tint.

What is the Next Step for Restoring My Brick?

If the brick was stained, it is likely that a solvent based sealer was used. Stripping most of these solvent based types of sealers are more labor intensive. Depending on your particular scenario the process could call for stripping off all the stain and sealer and starting fresh. If your brick was tinted the process may not be as intense.

Here are some pictures of a carpet cleaning company that claimed they were experts at restoring brick floors. After they created a nightmare for the owner, they told them they would need to rip out the entire floor at a cost of $30,000.00.

We came in and stripped off all the sealer and resealed the brick floor.
